Capital Pursuit: The Washington Capitals’ Chase For The Stanley Cup: Conf. Semis Game 1

Posted by representingpuroresu on 05/02/2009

The Stanley Cup Playoffs continue for several teams, including my hometown Washington Capitals. Click below to read my thoughts on today’s Eastern Conference Semifinals Game 1 between the Caps & Pittsburgh Penguins.

Wasn’t able to watch because I was at the Nationals game, but a Caps-Pens matchup on paper is always exciting and this one, as always, seemed to deliver. Sidney Crosby scored first but the Caps came back, including getting a goal from Ovechkin, and Nicklas Backstrom got the game winner early in the 3rd. Caps 3, Pens 2. Tight game all the way but rookie goalie Simeon Varlamov continues to play like a seasoned veteran-he got First Star of the game-the 5th time these playoffs he’s been a First, Second or Third Star. In only 7 games! He already has played more playoff games-7-than regular season games this year-6. This kid’s gonna be something! Outta His Way, Jose (Theodore)! Good thing they were able to win without Donald Brashear’s physical play, he still has to sit out 4 more games (suspension), it was important to get a good start especially against these Pens and keep the momentum from the Rangers comeback going. So far, so good. More exciting games likely to come this series, don’t miss them!

Game 2 is Monday night at The V.
