Confuseyus: UFC 113 Predictions

Posted by representingpuroresu on 05/03/2010

It’s once again time for our usually-twice-yearly dose of MM-Eh as UFC is headed to Canada this weekend for the first of 2 Canada events this summer-in fact, 2 of the next 3 UFCs are up north. This weekend’s UFC 113 actually was planned for this past Saturday (May 1), but when boxing interfered in the form of Mayweather-Mosley on PPV UFC decided to move their event back a week to avoid going head-to-head. As usual 113 will be Canada-heavy even though Canadian posterboy Georges St. Pierre won’t be in action (you know he’ll be cage-side though) and will be headlined by the rematch of Ryoto (Lyoto) Machida vs. Mauricio Rua for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. When it comes to UFC the prognosticator has been hot & cold these last few PPVs (he’d rather forget the abomination that was a 2-9 WEC 48), he’ll try to get back to hot with this event. Click below for the picks.

Usual disclaimer: As always, these picks are strictly for entertainment purposes only and should not be used as the basis for any real-life betting/wagering. A “NC” in a fighter’s record indicates No Contest. All fighter rankings are based on the latest MMAWeekly World MMA Rankings.

Main card airs on PPV.

Prelims (may not air on PPV):
Jason MacDonald vs. John Salter
Records: MacDonald 24-13, Salter 4-1
This was to have been Nick Catone vs. Salter, but Catone is off due to injury. David Loiseau was the original replacement, but he wasn’t licensed by the Quebec Athletic Commission in time. MacDonald then was tapped as the replacement replacement.
Prediction: MacDonald by 1st round KO/TKO.

TJ Grant vs. Johny Hendricks
Records: Grant 15-3, Hendricks 7-0
Prediction: SHOCKER SPECIAL! Grant by 2nd round submission/tapout. An underdog play (on MMA Playground anyway) that I am confident in.

Tim Hague vs. Joey Beltran
Records: Hague 10-3, Beltran 11-3
This was to have been Chad Corvin vs. Beltran, but Corvin is off due to injury.
Prediction: Hague by 1st round submission/tapout.

Yoshiyuki Yoshida vs. Mike Guymon
Records: Yoshida 11-4, Guymon 11-3-1
Prediction: Guymon by 1st round KO/TKO.

Jonathan Goulet vs. Marcus Davis
Records: Goulet 22-10, Davis 16-6
Prediction: SHOCKER SPECIAL 2! Goulet by 2nd round KO/TKO.

Joe Doerksen vs. Tom Lawlor
Records: Doerksen 44-12, Lawlor 6-2, 1 NC
This was to have been Tim Credeur vs. Lawlor, but Credeur is off due to injury.
Prediction: Doerksen by unanimous/majority decision.

Alan Belcher vs. Patrick Cote
Records: Belcher 15-6, Cote 13-5
Prediction: Cote by split decision.

Kimbo Slice vs. Matt Mitrione
Records: Slice 4-1, Mitrione 1-0
Prediction: Slice by unanimous/majority decision.

Jeremy Stephens vs. Sam Stout
Records: Stephens 16-5, Stout 15-5-1
Prediction: Stout by 1st round KO/TKO.

Josh Koscheck vs. Paul Daley
Records: Koscheck 14-4, Daley 23-8-2
Koscheck is the #4 Welterweight in the World. Daley is the #5 Welterweight in the World.
Prediction: Koscheck by 2nd round submission/tapout.

Main Event: UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Ryoto (Lyoto) Machida vs. Mauricio Rua for the title
Records: Machida 16-0, Rua 18-4
Machida is the #1 Light Heavyweight in the World. Rua is the #3 Light Heavyweight in the World.
Prediction: Machida by unanimous/majority decision.

I haven’t decided if I’ll buy the live PPV or not, but based on plans for the day and there being NASCAR on Saturday night, I’m leaning against it and saving the money for UFC 114 at the end of the month.
