Confuseyus: UFC 106 Quick Predictions

Posted by representingpuroresu on 11/20/2009

Normally a little “home cookin'” is welcomed when one has been on the road a long time. But in UFC’s case as they return to the mothership-Las Vegas-for tomorrow night’s UFC 106 the cooking hasn’t gone down well. Injuries, illnesses and other issues have decimated what once was an outstanding-looking card (the main event was to have been Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin for the UFC Heavyweight Championship) and it’s now rather pedestrian. The latest blow came just yesterday (Thursday) when Karo Parisyan pulled out of the card and is probably done in UFC, costing Dustin Hazelett a fight. He’ll still get paid though. So now the event is headlined by Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin 2 in a match which one thing is guaranteed-someone or something will run. Click below for quick predictions of what’s left of the card.

Usual disclaimer: As always, these picks are strictly for entertainment purposes only and should not be used as the basis for any real-life betting/wagering. A “NC” in a fighter’s record indicates No Contest. All fighter rankings are based on the latest MMAWeekly World MMA Rankings.

Main card airs on PPV. TV fights air live on Spike at 9 PM ET.

Prelims (may not air on TV/PPV):
George Sotiropoulos vs. Jason Dent
Records: Sotiropoulos 12-2, Dent 28-9
Prediction: Sotiropoulos by unanimous/majority decision.

Caol Uno vs. Fabricio Camoes
Records: Uno 25-12-4, Camoes 10-4
Prediction: Camoes by unanimous/majority decision.

Brock Larson vs. Brian Foster
Records: Larson 29-3, Foster 12-4
Prediction: Larson by 1st round submission/tapout.

TV fights (9-10 PM ET on Spike):
Kendall Grove vs. Jake Rosholt
Records: Grove 10-6, Rosholt 6-1
Prediction: Grove by unanimous/majority decision.

Ben Saunders vs. Marcus Davis
Records: Saunders 7-1-2, Davis 16-5
Prediction: Davis by 2nd round KO/TKO.

Amir Sadollah vs. Phil Baroni
Records: Sadollah 1-1, Baroni 13-11
Prediction: Baroni by 1st round KO/TKO.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Luis Cane
Records: Nogueira 17-3, Cane 10-1
Nogueira is the #8 Light Heavyweight in the World. Cane is the #10 Light Heavyweight in the World.
Prediction: Cane by 1st round KO/TKO.

Paulo Thiago vs. Jakob Volkmann
Records: Thiago 11-1, Volkmann 9-0
Prediction: Thiago by unanimous/majority decision.

Josh Koscheck vs. Anthony Johnson
Records: Koscheck 13-4, Johnson 8-2
Prediction: Johnson by 2nd round KO/TKO.

Main Event: Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin
Records: Griffin 16-6, Ortiz 15-6-1
Griffin is the #5 Light Heavyweight in the World.
Prediction: Ortiz by 2nd round KO/TKO.

I’ll try to do live quick results tomorrow (not buying PPVs for a while due to financial issues) but I don’t know if I’ll be home when the event begins and won’t know until everything I have to do tomorrow is done. Let’s say game-time decision.
