Funny MMA Photo Of The Day: No Disintegrations!

Posted by dcrage on 11/19/2009

Apparently Boba Fett is an MMA fan, as he was spotted in Shane Roller’s corner at WEC 44 last night:

OK, it was really Marc Laimon, but from a die-hard Star Wars fan major props on the getup. Had to share it…I guess they were expecting Han Solo in Danny Castillo’s corner.

Confuseyus: UFC 101 & WEC 42 Preview & Predictions

Posted by dcrage on 08/01/2009

Philadelphia is best known as being the birthplace of America, the home of the authentic Philly cheesesteak, having some of the toughest fans in sports (booing Santa Claus?), and is nicknamed “The city of brotherly love”. That may not be the case on August 8 when UFC makes their first trip to Philly for UFC 101: Declaration. Certainly no love in the main event, where UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn finally defends the title in a long-anticipated matchup with Kenny Florian. Read on for my preview of the event, of course best enjoyed alongside a hot fresh cheesesteak. Extra cheese & mayo, bacon too, hold the onions. Then after that, break out the mullets and stick around for predictions for WEC 42 the next night in Vegas (August 9), headlined by Mark Buehrle’s favorite fighter-Miguel Torres-defending the WEC Bantamweight Championship against Brian Bowles.

Funny MMA Photo Of The Day: Urijah Faber, True Eternal Optimist

Posted by dcrage on 06/10/2009

If there’s one thing about my boy Urijah Faber that stands out above all else, it’s that he always-ALWAYS-seems to have a positive attitude, even after a tough loss like the one to Mike Brown (again) this past Sunday at WEC 41. He always seems to be able to hang loose no matter how tough it is-the proof after the jump.

Confuseyus: WEC 41 Quick Predictions

Posted by dcrage on 05/29/2009

Confuseyus

Confuseyus

Few promotions, UFC included, have the hype machine that WEC has. When they promote their big fights, they PROMOTE. Case in point: Next Sunday’s (6/7) WEC 41 main event. Mike Thomas Brown took the WEC Featherweight Championship from Urijah Faber in one of MMA’s all-time biggest upsets. Now Faber wants his belt back and he’s got his chance, and he has a chance to return the favor: Brown took the title in his native Florida while Faber can win it back in his own backyard: Sacramento, CA. WEC is pushing it as Their Biggest Fight Of All-Time. Again, but when they claim that they just about always deliver. But underneath that main event is WEC’s usual loaded card with familiar faces, some in new places including a UFC import moving down to make his WEC debut. Have a look.
(Note: Due to time constraints and some personal issues I will not be able to do a full preview for this event, so this will solely be quick fight predictions)

Posted by dcrage on 04/29/2009

Sherdog.com posted today another article on the recovery of WEC fighter Will Ribeiro, considered a fast-rising star and Top 10 fighter before a motorcycle accident in December left him critically injured. As this new article notes, he is now in a wheelchair but support and assistance in his recovery efforts, especially from those in his native Brazil, remain very strong.

WEC is once again heading on the road, this time to the Windy City for WEC 40 on April 5. Headlining the show is the mulleted one, hometown boy Miguel Torres, defending his WEC Bantamweight Championship, albeit not against the fighter originally planned. It’s still a tough fight though, and we’ll get there after we check out the rest of the card. Here we go…

Will Ribeiro Update: Back Home, Recovering Well

Posted by dcrage on 03/12/2009

You might recall months back the news that top WEC rising star Will Ribeiro was in a motorcycle accident that left him in a coma and with only a 50-50 chance of survival. I finally found an update on him via the TATAME website, and I’m happy to report that it seems he’s beaten the odds…
