Damn You, Chu Sung-hooon!
Posted by dcrage on 03/12/2009
Thanks to you and your fat new UFC contract, among other things, there’s one less Japanese supermodel hottie left for the rest of us! Although…well, so far the pics dug up of her suggests that, by Japanese model standards, she’s rather, uh, tame. Certainly no bikini/gravure idol. Yet. Anyway, so I can stop trying too hard to make this somewhat funny…that’s the idea, this is meant to be a somewhat humorous entry…

Will Ribeiro Update: Back Home, Recovering Well
Posted by dcrage on 03/12/2009
You might recall months back the news that top WEC rising star Will Ribeiro was in a motorcycle accident that left him in a coma and with only a 50-50 chance of survival. I finally found an update on him via the TATAME website, and I’m happy to report that it seems he’s beaten the odds…

TKO’d: Boxer-Promoted Boxing/MMA Main Event Off (Corrected)
Posted by dcrage on 03/12/2009
And maybe it’s for the better…as you may or may not know, former boxing champion Roy Jones Jr. is promoting a hybrid MMA/boxing event on march 21 with a scheduled MMA main event of 2 former wrestlers facing off: Ken Shamrock vs. Bobby Lashley. Not anymore thanks to Ken…BUSTED. According to various news sites (I’m getting this from 411mania.com), The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) has announced that Shamrock has been suspended for testing positive for three anabolic agents. They were 19-Norandrosterone, 19-Noretiocholanolone and Stanozolol. Shamrock was tested in accordance with the California State Athletic Commission back on February 13th, on the Wargods event, where Shamrock was victorious (he quickly submitted Ross Clifton, who outweighed Shamrock by at least 100 pounds). He’s suspended 1 year and fined $2500 but can (and will) appeal. OK, I’ll admit to being a little surprised. True, this was Ken’s first MMA win in, well, what seems like eternity-OK, nearly 5 years as June ‘04 was his last win before this-but who would’ve thought a legend of the sport would have to resort to such lowhanded tactics? Considering he’s 45 and hasn’t been significant in the sport since, oh, 2001, he should’ve retired long ago and definitely after he came out on the losing end of his rivalry with Tito Ortiz that wrapped up after season 3 of The Ultimate Fighter. And assuming this win is overturned to a No Contest (the most the CSAC can d0, he’ll now have a 6-fight winless streak or at least be back to 5. This is perhaps another reason sports like wrestling and MMA should have mandatory retirement ages, no disrespect to Randy Couture (the seemingly ageless one) but as these guys get older it seems they have to resort to things like steroids to keep up with younger guys and then they’re putting their already frail bodies at greater risk, among other things. Ken, you’ve tarnished your legacy enough as it is and this won’t help nearly as much as it’s gonna hurt. WALK AWAY NOW AND STAY AWAY. Enough said. That being said it’s probably too late to find a quality replacement for Lashley, who needs to get picked up by UFC, Strikeforce, or someone in Japan. I”ve seen enough of Lashley to dub him now what I did when he broke into wrestling-The Next Big B. And Roy, stick to boxing. Leave the promoting to someone who knows enough to give it a shot…like, say…DON KING! Seriously, Don King is going to try his hand at promoting MMA. But that’s for another time.
UPDATE: When I originally posted this I incorrectly said that Shamrock TKO’d Clifton. Shamrock actually won by submission. I have now corrected this error in the main post.
